Mourinho returns to Real Madrid on three-year deal

Jose Mourinho is back at Real Madrid. The Spanish giants confirmed the reappointment of the 63-year-old Portuguese manager on a three-year contract, beginning when the team returns for pre-season training on July 13.

Real Madrid reportedly paid Benfica £13 million (15 million euros) to bring Mourinho back to the Santiago Bernabéu. This move comes more than a decade after his initial spell with the club concluded. Mourinho returns to a Real Madrid side that has not won any trophies in the past two seasons.

His reappointment follows Florentino Perez's re-election as club president. Perez, who has led the club since 2009, secured 65% of the votes in a recent election, defeating challenger Enrique Riquelme. Perez had previously vowed to bring Mourinho back if re-elected.

Mourinho's first tenure at Real Madrid, from 2010 to 2013, was successful, yielding a La Liga title, a Copa del Rey, and a Spanish Super Cup. Since then, he has managed several high-profile clubs, including Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Roma, Fenerbahce, and most recently, Benfica, where he led them to an unbeaten league campaign that secured a third-place finish.
