Mozambique-flagged LPG tanker attacked in Iranian waters, Indian embassy says

A liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanker flying the Mozambique flag, with 28 Indian crew members aboard, was attacked on Friday within Iranian territorial waters, according to the Indian embassy in Tehran. The vessel, identified as the Disha, was reportedly struck by an unknown missile in the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz while en route to the Persian Gulf.

Fortunately, all 28 Indian nationals on board are reported to be safe. The Indian embassy confirmed it is actively communicating with Iranian authorities regarding the incident. The Forward Seamen's Union of India also shared information about the attack via X, stating the missile hit occurred near the critical Strait of Hormuz.

This waterway, situated between Iran and Oman, is a vital transit route for approximately one-fifth of global energy supplies. Tensions in the region have been heightened since a temporary truce between Washington and Tehran collapsed in early July. This breakdown has led to renewed exchanges of strikes and further disruptions to shipping traffic through the Strait.
