MPs ratify continental disaster preparedness agreement

Rwanda's Chamber of Deputies has ratified the African Risk Capacity (ARC) Agreement, marking a significant step towards bolstering disaster preparedness across the continent. The approval of the draft law on Monday, August 3, underscores a commitment to collective action in addressing the growing threat of climate-related disasters.

The African Risk Capacity is a specialized agency of the African Union that provides policy and technical support to AU member states to manage disaster risks and build their capacity to respond to weather-related events. Ratification of the agreement allows Rwanda to fully participate in the ARC's initiatives, including access to early warning systems, risk financing, and disaster response tools.

This move is particularly crucial for Rwanda, a nation vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, including droughts and floods.
