MTV secures SM-liiga ice hockey TV rights until 2032

MTV will continue to broadcast Finland's premier ice hockey league, the SM-liiga, after securing a new five-year television rights deal. The agreement, which runs until the spring of 2032, extends MTV's long-standing partnership with the league that began in 2020. This new contract ensures continuity for fans and the league itself.

Johannes Leppänen, CEO of MTV, expressed enthusiasm for the extended partnership, stating, "It is wonderful that MTV continues to be the home of Liiga hockey, as we have long been building a modern and Finland's most interesting sports package together with Liiga." He believes the coming years and the league's upcoming structural changes will create an excellent foundation for further growth in hockey's popularity.

Jyrki Seppä, Chairman of the SM-liiga, also welcomed the agreement, noting its significance for the league's strategic plans. "We are, of course, extremely pleased. The multi-year extension provides a good starting point for the Liiga's historic league system reform and brings stability to the operating environment," Seppä commented. The stability provided by the deal is particularly important as the league prepares for significant changes.

The upcoming season will feature a "super season" with 17 teams. Following this, the league will transition to a two-division system. Both of these divisions will be covered under the new TV agreement and will be broadcast on MTV's channels, ensuring comprehensive coverage for viewers.
