Mudflows damage homes and roads in Kyrgyzstan's Batken region

Mudflows swept through parts of Kyrgyzstan's Batken region on May 24, following intense rainfall. The southern Batken and Leilek districts were particularly affected by the natural disaster.

In the Batken district, the mudflows reportedly followed existing riverbeds and, according to preliminary information, did not cause any significant damage. However, the situation in the Leilek district proved more serious. There, the mudflows damaged the internal road network and affected two residential homes.

Authorities have mobilized to address the aftermath. Services have been tasked with conducting prompt and high-quality restoration work. Efforts are ongoing to pump water out of flooded basements, clear irrigation ditches and canals, and ensure the safety of local residents. Special equipment has been deployed, and services are operating in an intensified mode to manage the situation.

Despite the damage, transportation has been restored, and roads in the affected areas are now open. The swift response aims to mitigate the impact on the communities and begin the recovery process.
