Mudryk joins Tottenham on loan from Chelsea

Mykhailo Mudryk has joined Tottenham Hotspur on a season-long loan from Chelsea, just over a month after he was cleared to return from an anti-doping suspension.

The 25-year-old Ukraine forward said he was excited to begin training and playing for Tottenham and to reunite with Roberto De Zerbi. “It's a great feeling. I can't wait to start training and playing for the club, and I'm so excited to be reunited with (coach) Roberto De Zerbi,” Mudryk told the club's website.

Mudryk said he wanted to use his speed and creativity in attack and defense. He joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023 but made limited impact before an adverse analytical finding for meldonium in a 2024 anti-doping test halted his career. The Football Association initially imposed a four-year ban, but the Court of Arbitration for Sport later reduced the suspension in agreement with the FA and the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Tottenham have spent about £300 million ($405.39 million) during the summer window as they seek more attacking options. The club had also pursued Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye, who joined Manchester City. Defender Tosin Adarabioyo moved from Chelsea to Tottenham shortly before the transfer deadline for a reported £7 million.

Mudryk made 73 appearances for Chelsea and scored 10 goals. De Zerbi said the winger could change games with his pace and one-on-one ability, adding: “He has the quality to change a game with his speed and ability in one-vs-one situations, and is an exciting, attacking talent.” Mudryk has won 28 senior caps for Ukraine.
