Multi-Vehicle Crash on East Java Highway Kills Three, Injures Two

A devastating multi-vehicle accident on the Surabaya-Malang national route in Pasuruan, East Java, claimed three lives and left two people with serious injuries on Monday morning. The crash occurred around 6:00 AM in the Mojorejo Hamlet, Ngerong Village, Gempol District.

The incident began when a trailer truck carrying paper rolls, traveling from Malang to Surabaya, allegedly lost control due to high speed. It first collided with a smaller truck, a Colt Diesel, in front of it. The impact caused several motorcycles ahead of the Colt Diesel to be dragged into the collision.

The trailer truck then struck a tanker truck before overturning. Losing control, it veered to the left side of the road, crashing into several houses along the roadside. The truck's paper roll cargo scattered across the scene, and victims were found strewn across the road.

Emergency services used specialized equipment to extract the trailer truck driver, identified as Agus, 40, from Malang, who was trapped in the cabin. Local resident Holidi (48) described the scene as horrific, with numerous victims and the trailer truck embedded in houses, causing a complete traffic standstill. Police are investigating the exact cause of the accident and managing traffic with a contraflow system to ease congestion and aid evacuation efforts.
