Multiple attackers kill 12 and wound 9 in late-night mass shooting in Johannesburg

Johannesburg, South Africa – A mass shooting in the Cleveland suburb late Tuesday night left 12 people dead and at least nine others wounded, according to police. Authorities stated that more than 10 suspects arrived in a minibus and proceeded to fire on residents in the informal settlement at multiple locations before fleeing in the same vehicle. Of the victims, nine were male and three were female. Eleven died at the scene, while the twelfth succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. Police are actively searching for the perpetrators, and no arrests have been made thus far. The motive behind the violent attack remains unknown.

This incident is the latest in a string of high-profile mass shootings in South Africa. In December, two separate shootings claimed over 20 lives in total, with one also involving multiple shooters.
