Mum and boyfriend jailed for girl's murder

A mother and her new boyfriend have been sentenced to life in prison for the "sadistic" abuse and murder of her two-year-old daughter. Isabelle Welsh was described as a "happy and thriving" child before her mother, Alexandra Walker, introduced Harrison Simpson into their lives in June 2025.

Teesside Crown Court heard that Isabelle became the victim of a sustained campaign of violent and sexual abuse perpetrated by those who were supposed to provide her with love, care, and protection. Simpson, 22, and Walker, 26, were both convicted of murder and child cruelty. Simpson was also found guilty of the sexual abuse of a child.

Ms. Justice Norton stated that both Simpson and Walker were "equally and jointly responsible" for Isabelle's murder and the cruelty she endured. The judge noted that the couple presented a "wall of silence, lies and obfuscation" regarding the final weeks of the child's life. Simpson must serve a minimum of 28 and a half years, while Walker was sentenced to 22 years.
