Musa, Ojo Reassure Nigerians in Angola as Government Vows to Revive Economy and Security

Nigeria’s government used a meeting with Nigerians in Angola to present its security campaign and economic recovery efforts, while the diaspora community pressed for easier access to basic consular services.

Defence Minister Christopher Musa said the government was taking comprehensive steps to secure Nigeria’s borders and prevent incursions. Those measures include increasing the manpower, equipment and operational capacity of the armed forces and other security agencies.

Musa linked some of Nigeria’s security problems to instability in the Sahel and the movement of threats across national borders. He told Nigerians in Luanda that the Tinubu administration remained determined to defeat terrorism and other security threats.

Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo said the economy was recovering. “Nigeria is growing, the economy is growing and Nigeria is on the path of full recovery,” he said.

The Nigerian community asked the government to establish a passport production centre in Angola, saying it would reduce the difficulties involved in obtaining and renewing passports. Tunji-Ojo said he would examine the request. Community representative Nnaemeka Francis Obi also called for improved healthcare support and direct flights between the two countries.

The engagement was coordinated by Nigerians in Diaspora Commission chair Abike Dabiri-Erewa during Nigeria’s participation in an African Union summit in Luanda. Dabiri-Erewa praised Nigerians in Angola for contributing to Nigeria’s development and said their concerns should inform government policy.
