Musandam Positions Itself as a Sustainable Tourism and Investment Hub

Musandam is seeking to turn its dramatic meeting point of mountains and sea into a stronger tourism and investment hub, with infrastructure at the center of the effort.

The Omani governorate combines towering mountains, sea inlets, beaches, islands and valleys. Its marine environment, traditional communities and heritage sites give it a varied tourism offer, officials say, while creating opportunities for investment, employment and local business.

Hamad Ibrahim Al-Shehhi, director of Khasab Municipality, said Musandam’s geographical, natural and heritage assets could establish it as a prominent destination in Oman and internationally. He said they also provide a foundation for sustainable tourism that supports economic diversification and local development in line with Oman Vision 2040.

Musandam’s exceptional geographical, natural and heritage characteristics give it the potential to establish itself as a prominent tourism and investment destination at both the local and international levels.

Al-Shehhi stressed that the governorate needs modern infrastructure and an integrated network of services to keep pace with growing tourism activity. Khasab Municipality is implementing projects to improve infrastructure, the urban environment and public services across the governorate’s wilayats.

The projects include waterfront development, public parks, road paving, transport improvements, modern lighting, urban beautification and new public facilities. Waterfronts are intended to make better use of Musandam’s coastal locations while creating spaces for recreation and community activities throughout the year. Road and lighting work is expected to improve access to tourist sites, traffic movement and safety, particularly in areas linked to mountains, valleys, beaches and remote coastal locations. Al-Shehhi said the projects should be viewed as long-term development investments rather than simply service works.
