Musang King Durian Planted En Masse as Economic Investment for Residents

The Gorontalo Utara Regency government in Indonesia is significantly expanding durian cultivation in the Tolinggula District. This initiative is framed as a crucial long-term economic investment for local residents and is integrated into the broader 'Agro Mopomulo' movement. The region, located in the westernmost part of the regency, is recognized for its substantial potential as a central hub for durian production. Regent Thariq Modanggu led the planting of four durian varieties, including the prized Musang King, in Cempaka Putih Village. The event involved local government officials, village leaders, educators, and elementary school students, emphasizing a community-wide effort. The 'One Man Ten Tree' initiative encourages widespread participation in planting. Modanggu stated that fruit tree planting extends beyond environmental greening; it is intended to generate economic value and provide a sustainable income source for families. The Agro Mopomulo program, previously active in Kwandang District, is now being expanded. The regency government has developed a roadmap to plant one million fruit trees, aiming to establish Gorontalo Utara as a leading fruit producer by 2030. This strategy positions Agro Mopomulo as a cornerstone of agricultural and plantation-based economic development. Each district is tasked with identifying suitable land for the fruit tree planting campaign, with commodity selection tailored to local soil conditions and economic potential. Tolinggula's role is particularly significant, as durian is already a well-established commodity there. Official data indicates Tolinggula produced approximately 1,780 tons of durian in 2026, far exceeding other districts within Gorontalo Utara. This established production base supports the government's push for increased cultivation, as Tolinggula durian already has a market reach beyond local consumers.
