Muscat International Airport welcomes inaugural Air Tanzania flight

Muscat International Airport welcomed the inaugural flight of Air Tanzania, establishing a new direct link between Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Muscat, Oman. The airline will operate three weekly flights using Airbus A300-220 aircraft.

This direct route represents a significant milestone in strengthening air connectivity between East Africa and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

The launch ceremony at Muscat International Airport was attended by senior officials from both countries, including Tanzania's Minister of Transport, Professor Makame Mbarawa, and Oman's Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Transport, Engineer Khamis bin Mohammed Al Shamkhi. This new direct route is seen as a significant milestone for air connectivity between East Africa and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

For the first time, it offers travelers a direct and comfortable flight between the two nations and is expected to significantly reduce travel time and improve ease of movement for both tourism and business travelers.

Air Tanzania CEO Engineer Peter Rudolph Olanga described the route as a pivotal moment for the airline and its national tourism agenda. He anticipates welcoming Omani visitors to Tanzania's renowned tourist destinations like the Serengeti, Zanzibar, and Mount Kilimanjaro. Oman Airports Company also welcomed the launch, emphasizing its role in bringing the GCC and East Africa closer and strengthening historical ties.
