'Muscat Plan' - a project that enhances Oman's presence in peace, and social cohesion initiatives

The Sultanate of Oman has launched the 'Muscat Plan' at the United Nations, a significant international initiative designed to bolster its soft power and global standing. This plan centers on promoting mutual understanding, peace, social cohesion, human dignity, and combating hate speech, thereby reinforcing Oman's position as a proactive international partner.

The initiative is a collaborative effort involving the Sultanate of Oman, the United Nations, the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), the United Nations Office on Genocide Prevention and the Responsibility to Protect, and the Network for Religious and Traditional Peacemakers. Its core aim is to foster preventive strategies for addressing hate speech, incitement to violence, and atrocity crimes by emphasizing dialogue, mediation, and the cultivation of cohesive communities.

The Muscat Plan emerged from an international consultative process led by the UN in partnership with the Network for Religious and Traditional Peacemakers. This process included input from religious and traditional leaders, Indigenous peoples, and international institutions worldwide. The objective was to create a practical framework that empowers community leaders in conflict prevention and enhances social cohesion and intercultural understanding.

This initiative aligns with Oman's increasing engagement in global efforts related to dialogue, coexistence, and peace. It builds upon Oman's established experience in promoting tolerance and understanding, notably through projects like the "Message of Peace." The plan's key pillars include expanding international partnerships, empowering community leaders in peacebuilding, promoting social cohesion and intercultural dialogue, countering hate speech and extremism, and advancing conflict prevention measures.

The Muscat Plan is founded on the international conviction that preventing conflicts and combating hate speech require more than just political or security measures; they necessitate robust community, cultural, and humanitarian partnerships. This approach seeks to foster stability and understanding within societies, positioning Oman as a key facilitator in these crucial global endeavors.
