Musician and artist Víctor Coyote dies suddenly at 68

Víctor Coyote, a foundational artist of Madrid's La Movida cultural movement and a significant figure in Latin rock, has died unexpectedly at the age of 68. Known for his multifaceted talent, Coyote passed away while on a bicycle ride.

Coyote, who founded the band Los Coyotes, was a pioneer of Latin rock and an icon of the Movida Madrileña. His artistic contributions extended beyond music; he was also a comic book artist, a music video director, and a filmmaker. Earlier in 2026, he released a compilation of his best solo tracks, titled 'El Propio,' and a collection of 'based on real events' stories from the Movida era, 'Cruce de perras.'

Friends described his health as enviable, and he had reportedly been planning a band rehearsal in Madrid for an upcoming tour. Coyote was in Segovia with friends to watch the recent solar eclipse before his death. The cause of his passing has not yet been disclosed.
