Musk says world's largest building, a Texas chip factory, will be 'breathtaking'

Elon Musk announced plans for "Terafab Texas," a semiconductor factory in Grimes County, Texas, which he described as "the largest and most valuable structure on Earth to date" and "breathtakingly beautiful."

The facility, a joint venture with Musk's electric vehicle company Tesla, is set to become the world's largest building, spanning over 100 million square feet. It will focus on manufacturing, packaging, and testing advanced logic and storage devices.

Terafab will produce chips optimized for edge computing and inference, crucial for hardware like Tesla's Optimus robots and self-driving cars. It will also create high-power chips for SpaceX's space data centers. The combined chip demand from SpaceX and Tesla is anticipated to exceed global supply.

The project is expected to cost approximately $16.8 billion in its initial phase and will create more than 3,000 jobs. Construction is slated to be completed by August 2026.
