Mutfwang convenes security council over Plateau attacks

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang convened the State Security Council in Jos after recent attacks in communities across the state.

The meeting at the New Government House in Little Rayfield brought together the deputy governor, security and law enforcement chiefs, the Gbong Gwom Jos, Jacob Gyang Buba, and other senior officials. They reviewed emerging threats, recent incidents, intelligence sharing, preventive operations and coordination between agencies.

A statement from Mutfwang’s director of press and public affairs said the council also examined ways to protect lives, property and economic activities while creating conditions for sustainable peace.

Plateau State Police Commissioner Ayodeji Faniyan said the governor regularly reviews security developments as the state’s chief security officer. “We assess the security situation in order to take steps to improve on what we already have,” Faniyan said.

He referred to the Mangu case as “very unfortunate,” saying security forces had prepared and deployed but attacks still occurred. Faniyan said arrests had been made in connection with some major attacks recorded during the past month. Investigators are working with other security agencies, including authorities at the national level, and using technological tools to analyse intelligence and identify the roles of other suspects.
