My late father only person who could look me in the eyes – Makinde

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde revealed on Sunday that his late father was the sole individual capable of offering him unvarnished truth, even when it was difficult to hear. Makinde shared these personal reflections during the 14th memorial service for his father, Pa Olatunbosun Makinde, held at the Cathedral of St Peter in Aremo, Ibadan.

Describing his late father as a candid advisor, close friend, and companion, Governor Makinde expressed that he still deeply misses his guidance. The memorial service served as a moment for the governor to honor his father's memory and the values he instilled.

In his sermon, the Bishop of Ibadan North Diocese, Rev. Williams Aladekugbe, lauded Pa Olatunbosun Makinde as a devout Christian who dedicated his life to serving God, the Church, and the wider community. The Bishop noted the deceased's consistent commitment as a member of the Cathedral of St Peter, Aremo, throughout his life and urged Christians to draw inspiration from his example of faith and service.

Bishop Aladekugbe also extended congratulations to Governor Makinde on the recent successful rescue of abducted teachers and pupils from the Oriire Local Government Area. He commended the peaceful environment that has characterized the state during Makinde's seven-year administration, adding that the governor's political future is ultimately in God's hands. The governor, accompanied by his elder brother Chief Muyiwa Makinde, later laid wreaths at the graves of his late father and mother, Madam Abigail Makinde, who passed away on October 15, 2020.
