Myongji University Signs Defense Tech Cooperation Deal with Vietnam's HITACO

Myongji University has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Vietnam's HITACO (High Technology Application One Member Company) to establish international cooperation in advanced defense technology. The agreement was finalized at HITACO's headquarters in Hanoi.

HITACO, a state-owned enterprise under Vietnam's Ministry of National Defense's General Department of Technology, oversees various defense-related projects, including identifying defense needs, acquiring technology, and managing international collaborations. Through this MOA, both institutions will engage in multifaceted cooperation, including information exchange, joint research and development (R&D), and the cultivation of specialized personnel within the defense technology field.

The collaboration also plans to expand academic and technical exchanges through joint international seminars, educational and training programs, and cooperative research projects. This initiative seeks to build a sustainable foundation for international cooperation. Ryu Yeon-seung, a professor at Myongji University's Department of Computer Science and Engineering, who spearheaded the agreement, highlighted the university's research capabilities in space, AI, cybersecurity, and defense security.

Professor Ryu stated, "Based on the research capabilities and industry-academia cooperation know-how that Myongji University has accumulated in the fields of space, AI, cybersecurity, and defense security, we will expand the cooperation network with Vietnam." He added, "Especially since HITACO possesses a strong network across the Vietnamese government and its defense sector, we will actively pursue joint projects with domestic defense companies hoping to enter the Vietnamese market."

Myongji University has been actively developing talent in advanced security and defense fields by establishing graduate programs in Security Management Engineering, Defense Security, and Defense Intelligence. The university's Defense Security Research Institute, founded in 2015, actively conducts research and industry-academia cooperation to advance the defense industry and strengthen national security.
