Mysterious disappearance of businessman Nikos Sakarellos: His phone's inexplicable signal near his hometown raises questions

The mysterious disappearance of businessman Nikos Sakarellos has caused significant concern in both his native Greece and his adopted home in Missouri, USA. Sakarellos, the owner of a restaurant in Missouri, had returned to Greece for his annual holidays but vanished under unclear circumstances shortly after arriving in Athens.

His uncle, Apostolis Sakarellos, was the last person to see him on May 31st. He dropped his nephew off near the Ministry of Finance in central Athens around noon, noting that Nikos planned to stay at a hotel but failing to get the specific address. Nikos was scheduled to fly back to the United States the next morning, but he never boarded his Delta Airlines flight.

Nikos had come to Greece on May 11 for a vacation. He has lived in America since 1976 and every time he came, he stayed at his house in Nafpaktos, where he is from. I was there too. On Sunday we left together by car around 9:30 in the morning, heading for Athens. Around 12:00 I left him on Karageorgi Servias street. He told me he would stay at a hotel in Mitropoleos, but unfortunately I didn't ask him which one. He had planned to return to Greece again in about two months for his summer vacation. I left him there and since then I haven't seen him again.

Adding a perplexing layer to the case, Sakarellos' mobile phone reportedly emitted a signal on June 2nd from the mountainous region of Nafpaktia, his hometown. This is particularly baffling as he was last seen in Athens and was expected to be returning to the US. The signal's origin near his village has deepened the mystery, with his uncle expressing disbelief at the turn of events.

Sakarellos had reportedly told his uncle he planned to meet friends in Athens that day. He also sent a message via Viber to his two children using his American phone number. Friends and former students from Missouri remember Sakarellos as a kind and generous individual who treated them like family, making his sudden disappearance all the more concerning.

The signal was recorded by the antenna in Ano Chora. But this is a mountainous area and I don't know its exact range. This means the phone seems to have returned towards Nafpaktia, but I can't understand what really happened. It's unthinkable. If he intended to end his life, he wouldn't have gone to Athens first and then returned. He was talking normally on the phone throughout the journey, he was cheerful. He is an excellent person who always helped others.
