Nanai Recalled as Maroons Boost Pack for Decider

Queensland has recalled North Queensland forward Jeremiah Nanai for the decisive third State of Origin match, with coach Billy Slater opting for the in-form second-rower. Nanai missed the series' opening two games due to a shoulder injury but earned his recall after a standout performance for the Cowboys, where he scored two tries and was named man of the match in their victory over Penrith.

The 23-year-old has a proven track record at the Origin level, having delivered strong performances in 11 previous appearances. His inclusion provides a significant boost to the Maroons' forward pack as they prepare for the crucial clash at Suncorp Stadium on July 8.

Brisbane lock Pat Carrigan has also been reinstated into the squad. Carrigan had been sidelined with an ankle injury that prevented him from playing in Game Two. Despite not having featured in a match since late May, selectors are confident that the experienced forward will be fit and ready for the series decider.

However, Queensland will be without prop Lindsay Collins, who has been ruled out of the game after failing a head injury assessment during recent club duties. The Maroons will maintain stability in their backline, keeping the halves and outside backs unchanged as they aim to secure the series victory on home soil.

The Queensland team is looking to overcome a recent trend of disappointing results at Suncorp Stadium, having lost their last two matches there, including last year's series opener and the 2024 decider. They aim for a complete 80-minute performance to clinch the series.
