Nanqiao Denies Intentional Delay in Reporting Benzopyrene in Soybean Oil

Nanqiao Company has publicly addressed allegations of intentionally delaying or concealing elevated levels of benzopyrene in its soybean oil. The company issued a statement asserting it had no motive for such actions, explaining that it first detected the anomaly on May 13 from a sample taken from a Fwusow oil tanker that had delivered oil on April 8.

According to Nanqiao, subsequent re-tests conducted three times confirmed the elevated benzopyrene levels in the sample. The company stressed that its repeated checks and re-verifications were undertaken with caution and precision, aiming for accuracy rather than to intentionally delay reporting or hide information. Nanqiao clarified its position as a buyer of soybean oil from Fwusow, stating it is not a shareholder in Fwusow or other related companies, and therefore has no basis for colluding with them to conceal the issue.

The company further explained that while the initial sample from the tanker showed abnormal results, subsequent tests on the oil stored in its tanks and the final products manufactured from that batch met safety standards. Based on these findings, Nanqiao concluded that the situation did not meet the reporting requirements stipulated by Article 7, Paragraph 5 of the Food Safety and Health Management Act.

Nanqiao urged the public to refrain from spreading rumors that could damage its reputation and image, threatening legal action if necessary. The company also extended a sincere apology to its customers and consumers for any inconvenience caused and assured them that it is actively working with clients to address concerns. To ensure the highest safety standards, Nanqiao has implemented batch testing for benzopyrene on all incoming raw oil since July 4, even before relevant legal amendments, and has committed to cooperating with regulatory authorities for inspections.
