Nantou Schools to Pilot Air Quality Sensors for Environmental Education

The Nantou County Environmental Protection Bureau is taking a proactive step to safeguard the health of our children and foster a deeper understanding of environmental issues. By piloting micro air quality sensors in elementary schools, we are not only enhancing our ability to monitor air quality in real-time but also creating invaluable educational opportunities.

Air quality is closely related to health, and sensitive groups and children should pay special attention to changes in air quality.

This initiative directly addresses the growing concern over air pollution, particularly in mountainous regions like Nantou where terrain can affect air circulation. While we already have monitoring stations and sensors across the county, placing these devices directly within school environments will provide students with hands-on learning experiences. Imagine students observing firsthand how burning mosquito coils impacts air quality – this is the kind of tangible education that truly embeds environmental consciousness.

This year, we plan to pilot the relocation of some micro sensors to elementary schools to strengthen the monitoring of campus air quality and serve as the best teaching tool for children's environmental education.
