NASENI empowers Osun youths and women with skills and tools for business growth

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has equipped young people and women in Ile-Ife, Osun State, with advanced technical skills and work tools. The initiative aims to empower them to establish and grow local businesses.

Khalil Halilu, the Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of NASENI, stated that the agency is moving beyond simply awarding certificates. The focus is now on providing practical skills and equipment that can translate into sustainable livelihoods and economic independence. This approach ensures beneficiaries can immediately apply their new skills.

The initiative was designed to move empowerment beyond the presentation of certificates to providing beneficiaries with practical skills, tools and opportunities capable of translating into sustainable livelihoods and economic independence.

The three-day NASENI Sustainable Empowerment Programme, held from August 7 to 9, 2026, trained participants in areas such as advanced photography and drone operations, shoemaking, CCTV and inverter installation, and tailoring. Relevant equipment was distributed to aid immediate application of the acquired skills.

Halilu urged the beneficiaries to view the provided equipment as essential tools for building viable enterprises. He highlighted that the program's success will be measured by the businesses created, employment generated, and skills transferred by the participants after the training. The initiative seeks to foster economic development within their communities.
