National Congress Symphony Orchestra to Premiere New Works at Municipal Theater

The National Congress Symphony Orchestra (OSIC) is set to present its fourth concert of the International Official Season 2026, titled "Nuevos horizontes sonoros," at the Municipal Theater "Ignacio A. Pane" this Thursday. Under the baton of Maestro Gabriel Graziani, the orchestra will showcase a program featuring two world premieres and one Paraguayan premiere.

The concert will open with the world premiere of "Danza Paraguaya Nro. 3" by composer Juan Sebastián Giménez. Maestro Graziani described the piece as exploring Paraguayan musical identity within a symphonic context, blending tradition with contemporary language. This work aims to project characteristic elements of Paraguayan music onto a larger, orchestral scale.

Another highlight will be the world premiere of "Ritual de Primavera, Op. 10" by Argentine composer Julián Caloggero. Inspired by the Greek myth of Demeter, Persephone, and Hades, the symphonic poem uses rich orchestral colors and contrasts to evoke the eternal cycle of death and renewal. Graziani noted that the work symbolizes the transition between seasons and states of being, mirroring Persephone's journey between the underworld and the surface.

Additionally, OSIC will perform "Concerto for Viola and Orchestra" by British composer Cecil Forsyth for the first time in Paraguay. Featuring violist Fabián Bordón as the soloist, Graziani praised the early 20th-century piece for its late romantic language, melodic richness, and technical demands, making it appealing to both performers and audiences. The concert begins at 8:00 PM and offers free admission.
