The National News Agency (LKBN) ANTARA has issued an appeal to the public, strongly advising against engaging in online gambling and other forms of betting while watching the World Cup. This call comes in response to the noticeable increase in gambling activities often associated with the world's biggest football event. Anom Prihantoro, head of ANTARA's Bengkulu Bureau, stressed that the momentum of the World Cup should not be tarnished by illegal practices. "It is very important during this World Cup momentum to avoid gambling, especially online gambling, bets, and also to maintain order around us," he stated in Bengkulu on Friday. Prihantoro explained that the essence of football lies in healthy entertainment and fostering togetherness. He highlighted that gambling can lead to negative consequences for individuals and their communities. The agency warns that the heightened public enthusiasm for the World Cup should not be exploited for illegal betting, urging for collective awareness to steer clear of such activities. Instead, ANTARA encourages people to enjoy the matches positively, such as by supporting their favorite teams, strengthening community bonds, and drawing inspiration from the sportsmanship displayed by players. Beyond avoiding online gambling, the agency also calls for the public to help maintain order and security during the games to ensure a conducive atmosphere.
