National Nutrition Agency Deputy Head Responds to Arrest Rumors

Sony Sonjaya, the Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), has responded to rumors claiming he was arrested in a sting operation by the Attorney General's Office. Sonjaya indirectly denied the allegations by appearing publicly and speaking to reporters.

"My response is, I am here today talking with colleagues," Sonjaya told journalists at the National Police Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) building in Jakarta on Monday, May 25. He did not elaborate further on the rumors before leaving the location after a brief statement.

Earlier, a report circulated that investigators from the Attorney General's Office had targeted the former high-ranking police official in a sting operation. However, Anang Supriatna, Head of the Legal Information Center at the Attorney General's Office, denied these claims. "There was none," Anang stated in a written message on Thursday afternoon, May 21.

Later that evening, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, Director of Investigation for Special Crimes at the Attorney General's Office, also refuted the rumors, stating, "There was none, okay," after a press conference at the Special Crimes Directorate building.

Sony Sonjaya, born October 20, 1967, is an alumnus of the Police Academy in 1991 with a background in criminal investigation. His career in the police force included strategic positions such as Kapolres (Regent Police Chief) in Majalengka, Bandung, and Simalungun, as well as Deputy Director of Special Criminal Investigation at West Java Regional Police and Head of Analysis and Evaluation at Bareskrim. He also served as Director of General Criminal Investigation and later Director of Special Criminal Investigation in Aceh Province.

President appointed Sonjaya as Deputy Head of BGN in September 2025, following his role as Director of Regional II Supply and Distribution at the agency since January 2025. His appointment was made through Presidential Decree Number 97P of 2025.
