Nationwide Call: Halt Activities for 3 Minutes on August 17 at 10:17 AM WIB

Indonesia's Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, has issued a nationwide appeal for citizens to pause their activities for three minutes on August 17, 2026, at precisely 10:17 AM Western Indonesian Time (WIB).

The directive, outlined in a letter dated August 11, 2026, calls for the entire nation to cease activities from 10:17 AM to 10:20 AM WIB. During this period, the public is urged to stand respectfully while the national anthem, "Indonesia Raya," is played and the national flag, "Sang Merah Putih," is hoisted at the Presidential Palace. This observance is part of the commemoration of Indonesia's 81st Independence Day.

Exemptions from this mandatory pause apply to individuals engaged in activities that could endanger themselves or others if interrupted. Public services that cannot be suspended are also exempt. The Ministry of State Secretary has requested that TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces) and Polri (Indonesian National Police) in each region assist in facilitating this observance, potentially by sounding sirens or other signals shortly before the national anthem begins. Additionally, the circular encourages public participation in a "Pesta Rakyat" (People's Party) event scheduled from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM WIB on August 17 at Monas and the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout in Jakarta.
