Navy arrests three suspected pipeline vandals in Bayelsa

The Nigerian Navy has apprehended three individuals suspected of vandalizing the Oando-Ondewari pipeline in Bayelsa State, a critical piece of national energy infrastructure. The arrests were made by personnel from Operation DELTA SENTINEL following a coordinated intelligence-led operation with a private surveillance firm.

Preliminary investigations established the suspects’ involvement in the act of vandalism, while further inquiries revealed that a fourth suspect remains at large.

Naval authorities confirmed that the pipeline had been deliberately breached, leading to a crude oil spillage. The operation, which took place in the Ogboinbiri Community of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, resulted in the capture of three suspects. A fourth individual involved in the act is reportedly still at large.

According to the Director of Naval Information, Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, preliminary investigations indicate the suspects' direct involvement in the vandalism. The navy emphasized that this operation underscores its dedication to safeguarding vital oil and gas facilities. They aim to prevent economic saboteurs from compromising Nigeria's economic stability through such destructive acts.
