NBTE begins inspection, accreditation of Gombe horticulture school

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has initiated a comprehensive resource inspection and full accreditation exercise at the Federal College of Horticulture, Dadin-Kowa, Gombe State. This process will assess selected academic programs to ensure they meet the board's stringent standards for facilities, equipment, and manpower.

Resource persons have been deployed to the relevant departments to ensure that the exercise is conducted efficiently and without disruption.

A team led by Elder Ayo Aroge, Director of Polytechnic and Allied Programmes at NBTE, is evaluating programs such as HND Agribusiness Management, HND Fisheries Technology, and ND Computer Science, among others. The college is also presenting HND Agricultural and Extension Management and HND Pest Management Technology for re-accreditation, alongside resource inspections for HND Cyber Security and Data Protection.

Elder Aroge emphasized that the inspection aims to gauge the college's readiness and confirm compliance with regulatory requirements. He noted that resource persons have been assigned to relevant departments to ensure a smooth and efficient exercise. While this is not NBTE's first accreditation visit to the institution, cooperation from all involved departments and units is expected for a successful outcome.

Dr. Umar Abdullahi, Provost of the college, stated that significant efforts have been made to upgrade facilities and acquire necessary equipment and qualified personnel. He highlighted that these improvements were largely funded through the college's internal allocation, even without current support from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund). The exercise is being conducted under the supervision of NBTE Executive Secretary, Prof. Idris Muhammad Bugaje.

In line with the guidelines provided by the Board, the management has made concerted efforts to put in place the necessary equipment, facilities and qualified manpower required for the continuous assessment and development of the College.
