NDLEA seizes illicit drugs, arrests 42 suspects

The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reported a significant haul of illicit substances, intercepting 4,905.36 kg of drugs throughout June. This operation also led to the arrest of 42 suspected drug traffickers and the destruction of three cannabis farms across the state.

The arrested individuals comprise 24 males and 18 females, apprehended during intelligence-led operations. Commander of Narcotics Mitchell Ofoyeju highlighted June as a pivotal month, noting the agency's intensified drug control efforts in observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Seized drugs included 4,169.02 kg of cannabis destroyed in plantations and 736.34 kg of other drugs intercepted within the state. These substances included Cannabis sativa, methamphetamine, and various psychotropic drugs like Swinol, diazepam, and Rohypnol, along with 54.2 liters of codeine syrup. The NDLEA also secured 10 convictions and is prosecuting 79 pending cases, while providing counseling and rehabilitation services.
