Nea Makri flood protection works integrated into ESPA with €62.7 million funding

Flood protection works in Nea Makri, Attica, have received a significant boost with an allocation of 62.7 million euros from the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESPA) program. The funding, approved by the Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance, Nikos Papathanasis, will support the "Flood Protection Works, Stormwater Works in the Nea Makri Area of Attica" project.

The project, managed by the Directorate of Anti-Flood and Land Improvement Works of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, aims to resolve the long-standing flooding issues plaguing the Municipality of Marathon, particularly in the area between the Ag. Andreas settlement and the former American base. The construction of collectors will safeguard the streams and the surrounding areas from changes in land use.

This initiative is expected to prevent loss of life and property due to floods and reduce the need for civil protection interventions. Furthermore, the project is anticipated to stimulate economic activity and enhance the overall quality of life for the residents of Nea Makri.
