Nearly 2,000 join charity walk for environment and community support

An Dong ward saw nearly 2,000 residents, including officials, party members, and laborers, participate in a walkathon to mark World Environment Day. The event, themed "An Dong walks together for development," aimed to foster environmental protection and build a civilized urban area.

The initiative also served as a drive to mobilize social resources for the benefit of revolutionary contributors and disadvantaged families, channeling support through the ward's "For the Poor" and "Gratitude" funds. The event coincided with celebrations for the 51st anniversary of Southern Liberation and National Reunification, and the 50th anniversary of Ho Chi Minh City's renaming.

Key city leaders, including Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, an alternate member of the Central Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, joined the walk. Local officials from the Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of An Dong ward also participated, alongside representatives from various sectors.

The program is organized to respond to the movement 'The entire people join hands to protect the environment for a green - clean - beautiful Vietnam', contributing to building a civilized urban area and improving the environment in the ward.

The more than 2km route through the ward's main streets served not only as a physical activity but also as a platform to promote healthy living, environmental responsibility, and the tradition of "drinking water, remembering its source." The walkathon successfully raised funds, enabling the distribution of 50 health insurance cards to needy residents and the construction of a "Great Solidarity" house for a disadvantaged family, totaling hundreds of millions of Vietnamese dong in social welfare contributions.

Alongside the walk, activities such as creating green spaces and planting trees were organized to celebrate World Environment Day. These efforts aim to enhance the urban landscape and raise public awareness about maintaining a clean and green living environment, reinforcing the message of community solidarity and shared responsibility.
