Nearly 7,000 people paid their respects at King Harald’s coffin on Saturday

Nearly 7,000 people paid their respects at King Harald V’s coffin in the Palace Chapel on Saturday. The Royal Palace told NTB that 6,960 people filed past the coffin.

The large turnout produced queues of up to seven hours on Saturday morning for people seeking to say farewell to the king. By the afternoon, the line had shortened, and the Palace said the waiting time had fallen below one hour.

Visitors faced another long wait on Sunday. At around 11 a.m., people joining the queue could expect to wait about five hours, although the Palace expected the line to become considerably shorter later in the afternoon. It encouraged visitors to spread their visits across the day and evening.

Jordan’s King Abdullah II will attend King Harald’s funeral on Wednesday, according to the Jordanian royal court. Harald visited Jordan on a state visit in 2020, which became his final state visit. During that trip, Abdullah showed the Norwegian royal couple the site on the Jordan River where Jesus was baptized.
