Nearly a quarter million have downloaded new digital ID app

Denmark's new digital identification app, AltID, has seen a rapid uptake since its launch just under three weeks ago, with over 230,000 downloads recorded. The app represents Denmark's first official tool for digital identification and proof of age, enabling users to present verified credentials directly from their smartphones for both online and physical interactions.

Joachim Møller Alstrup, head of the eID and apps department at the Agency for Digitisation, stated that the plan is to expand the app's functionality. "We are now working on adding the health insurance card to the app. We are likely talking about months, not years," Alstrup told Ritzau. He also confirmed that the driver's license is intended to be integrated into AltID in the future.
