Ñeembucú forms Departmental Council for Older Adults

In Pilar, Paraguay, representatives from various senior associations, commissions, and clubs have formally established the Departmental Council for Older Adults of Ñeembucú. This newly formed body is dedicated to fostering policies and actions focused on active aging, the defense of human rights, and the social integration of older adults.

The inaugural meeting took place in the Municipal Open Center of Pilar and was attended by key figures, including Griselda Riveros, president of the Council of Older Adults of Asunción (CAMA); María Felipa Díaz from Amnesty International; and Father Luis Decoud Zarza. The gathering also saw participation from leaders of local senior groups, former national deputy Ludmila Riveros de Sánchez, and architect Silvana Troche, alongside numerous other organization members.

During the assembly, Griselda Riveros emphasized the critical importance of senior organization in strengthening the promotion of active aging and ensuring their rights and full societal integration. Following this, the executive commission was elected. Cristina Ozuna will serve as president, Ignacia Cubilla as vice-president, Silvana Troche as secretary, Aurora Bernal as treasurer, and Father Luis Decoud Zarza as auditor.

President-elect Cristina Ozuna outlined the council's primary challenge: expanding its initiatives to encompass all districts within the Ñeembucú department. "We want to promote a healthy and participatory life through physical, artistic, and recreational workshops, similar to those we have been developing in our association. Now we seek to broaden this work and reach all districts of Ñeembucú," she stated. The council's agenda includes combating mistreatment of the elderly and ensuring their well-being.
