Negeri Sembilan MB aide apologizes for 'Tok Undang' jest

A press secretary to the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar has issued a public apology for referring to DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke by the traditional title "Tok Undang" during a Pakatan Harapan event. Ahmad Shahir Mohd. Shah, the press secretary, explained that his use of the title was intended as a lighthearted jest and not meant to disrespect anyone or the revered adat luak institution.

He expressed remorse for his "oversight" and hoped the issue could be clarified.

The apology came after a video circulated online showing Shah referring to Loke as "Tok Undang ke-5" while inviting him to speak at the Negeri Sembilan Pakatan Harapan machinery launch event. As a native of Negeri Sembilan who deeply respects the state's adat and the Undang luak institution, Shah emphasized the seriousness of using such titles, noting they are tied to the Adat Perpatih and deserve respect from all, regardless of political affiliation.

Over this oversight, I realize my mistake and hope this issue can clear up the confusion that has occurred.

Shah also called on the Royal Malaysia Police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to take action against at least 11 individuals and platforms that have been circulating narratives using the "Tok Undang" title for Loke since Saturday. Previously, UMNO Negeri Sembilan had demanded an apology from the Menteri Besar's aide, with UMNO committee member Datuk Saiful Yazan Sulaiman deeming the association of any political leader with an Undang title, even as a joke, as inappropriate and insensitive.
