Neighbor Killed Over Gate Noise in Turkey; Suspect Claims Psychiatric Issues

A year-long feud over the noise from a sliding gate culminated in a fatal shooting in Turkey's Muğla province. Osman Küçükgüzel is accused of fatally shooting his neighbor, Ramazan Çalışkan, and injuring Çalışkan's wife and 13-year-old daughter. The incident occurred on June 19 after Küçükgüzel reportedly became enraged by the gate's noise and a subsequent exchange with Çalışkan's wife.

Küçükgüzel told authorities that the dispute began about a year ago due to the sound of the metal gate. He claimed that a week prior to the shooting, he had visited a police station to complain, and the station commander had called Çalışkan to warn him. However, the noise issue persisted. On the day of the incident, Küçükgüzel stated that Çalışkan's wife insulted him and deliberately slammed the gate, provoking his anger.

Following the exchange, Küçükgüzel retrieved a shotgun from his home and fired two shots toward his neighbors' property without aiming at anyone specifically. He stated his intention was not to kill anyone. The suspect, who claims to have been undergoing psychiatric treatment for six years and taking medication, expressed deep regret over the events. "I wish I had died, but no one else had been harmed," he reportedly told investigators.
