Neighbors form human chain to rescue dog trapped in Colombian canal

A heartwarming act of solidarity unfolded in Bogotá, Colombia, when a group of neighbors spontaneously formed a human chain to rescue a dog trapped in a canal. The incident, captured on video by a passerby, quickly went viral on TikTok, earning widespread admiration.

The dog had reportedly slipped down a steep concrete wall into the water and was unable to climb out on its own. Witnessing the animal's distress, the neighbors immediately devised a plan. They linked hands, creating a human chain stretching across the canal to reach the stranded dog.

I did the only thing I could do: capture the scene on video to show the act of empathy that occurred in the neighborhood.

Nicolás Gallardo, who filmed the rescue, told The Dodo that he was passing by when he heard a commotion. "Instinctively I approached and realized the situation," he said. Unable to help from his side of the canal, Gallardo decided to document the "act of empathy" to share with others.
