Ñemby mayoral candidate Lanzoni gains support from Payo Cubas, claims victory with Colorado votes

Paraguayo Cubas, the influential leader of Cruzada Nacional, has publicly backed Blas Lanzoni, the Liberal Party candidate for mayor of Ñemby. The endorsement, which occurred at a political rally on Monday, also featured Ricardo Estigarribia, the governor of Central Department and a potential 2028 presidential hopeful.

Lanzoni, aiming to unseat the incumbent Tomás Olmedo of the National Republican Association (ANR), expressed confidence in his victory, particularly highlighting his support from "good Colorados." He asserted that these voters, despite facing potential threats and persecution, are determined to vote for change on October 4.

Cubas has been actively promoting a hypothetical presidential ticket for 2028, pairing Estigarribia with Senator Yolanda Paredes. Lanzoni's campaign has also recently received support from Miguel Prieto, another potential presidential candidate. This broad coalition aims to consolidate opposition support against the ANR.

Lanzoni emphasized the diverse support he has garnered, noting that many "good Colorados" have joined his project. He also acknowledged the significant electoral strength of Cubas, recalling that over 17,000 Ñemby residents voted for Cruzada Nacional in the 2023 general elections. This broad base of support is intended to isolate Lanzoni's opposition rival, Cheng Kuo.
