Nepal Faces High Risk of New Floods as Lake Swells

Nepal is facing a high risk of renewed flooding as a glacial lake, formed by a recent devastating flash flood, swells with ongoing rainfall. The disaster, which occurred on Wednesday along the border between Nepal and Tibet, has already claimed 469 lives, with more than 1,000 people still unaccounted for. The US Geological Survey (USGS) identified a glacial lake outburst as the apparent cause of the initial catastrophic flood, though the specific trigger for the outburst remains under investigation, with experts suspecting climate change may have contributed.
