Nepal Flood Death Toll Reaches 903 as 4,247 Remain Missing

Nepal’s flood death toll has risen to at least 903, while 4,247 people remain missing as rescue efforts enter their sixth day, according to the country’s disaster authority.

China’s state media reported 16 deaths and 546 missing people in Tibet after the disaster, bringing the combined figures for Nepal and Tibet to 919 dead and 4,793 missing.

Nepal’s missing-person list includes 592 foreigners and 933 workers on hydropower projects along the river struck by the torrent. The disaster authority listed 3,655 Nepali citizens as missing in its Monday morning update.

The figures changed sharply in Nuwakot district, where the number missing rose to 1,158 from 115 reported the previous day. Another 562 people remain unaccounted for in Rasuwa district. The missing also include 45 Nepali army soldiers, 38 police and armed police officers, and 19 customs and immigration officials.

Authorities in India’s Uttar Pradesh state said they had recovered 17 bodies from rivers flowing from Nepal. The bodies are believed to belong to flood victims, but Indian authorities are still trying to identify them, and they have not been added to the toll.
