Nepal flood death toll rises to 1,127 as 4,858 remain missing

Nepal’s Bhotekoshi flood death toll has risen to 1,127 as recovery teams found bodies across several districts and in neighbouring India, Nepal Police said. The disaster began in Rasuwa, where 45 bodies had been recovered by 5 a.m., while other deaths were recorded in Nuwakot, Dhading, Chitwan, Gorkha, Tanahun, Nawalparasi East and Nawalparasi West.

Police said legal identification and postmortem procedures had been completed for 1,113 bodies. Authorities had handed 95 bodies to relatives. Details of 911 unidentified bodies were posted on the Nepal Police website to help families search for missing relatives.

Search operations continued for 4,858 people reported missing. Police deployed 7,912 personnel to conduct searches and rescues, distribute relief and manage recovered bodies. Teams were also moving families from high-risk areas to safer locations and clearing roads blocked by debris.

The flood, caused by an ice-rock avalanche, devastated settlements and damaged roads, border trade facilities and hydropower infrastructure along the Bhotekoshi river in several districts.
