Nepal’s House of Representatives calendar disrupted by indefinite adjournment

Nepal’s House of Representatives has lost its parliamentary schedule after meetings planned for Monday and Tuesday were postponed indefinitely.

The Federal Parliament Secretariat announced the postponement on Aug. 26, but no date has been set for the next sitting. The interruption has left several items on the tentative agenda pending.

Monday’s planned business included a proposal to consider the Employees Provident Fund (Tenth Amendment) Bill, 2083, along with zero hour and the presentation of annual reports. Tuesday’s agenda included discussion of an agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on conserving and sustainably using marine biodiversity beyond national jurisdiction. It also included zero hour, special hour and questions for ministries.

A meeting of the House Business Advisory Committee at Singha Durbar is addressing the disruption and considering when lawmakers should reconvene. Wednesday’s tentative agenda includes the Children (First Amendment) Bill, 2083, but the broader calendar has not proceeded as planned.
