NESREA Seeks Collaboration With ACReSAL On Climate Action, Environmental Protection

The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) is pursuing stronger collaboration with the Taraba State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project to boost environmental protection and sustainable development. Taraba State Coordinator for NESREA, Mr. Oteikwu John, emphasized the mutual benefits of effective partnership and data sharing during a visit to the ACReSAL office.

"We are here to see how we can work together and complement the good work ACReSAL is doing in Taraba State," John stated. "We seek your support and hope to be carried along in relevant activities." He added that environmental law enforcement benefits greatly from collaboration, enabling the achievement of greater results. NESREA, established in 2007, has been active in Taraba State since 2017, enforcing environmental laws and implementing international environmental conventions.

Responding to the delegation, the Taraba State ACReSAL Project Coordinator, Dr. Yakubu Giwa Clement, welcomed the initiative and affirmed ACReSAL's commitment to a productive partnership. Clement clarified that ACReSAL is a multi-sectoral project focused on the environment, water resources, and agriculture, aiming for environmental restoration, watershed management, climate resilience, capacity building, and emergency response, rather than merely distributing funds.

Dr. Clement revealed that ACReSAL has already intervened in three micro catchments and plans to expand its efforts to ten more across the state. He stressed the critical importance of proper watershed management and environmental conservation in combating climate change effects, including environmental degradation and threats to natural ecosystems. Officials from ACReSAL's Legal, Environmental Safeguards, and Monitoring and Evaluation units also underscored the necessity of joint efforts among environmental institutions to safeguard the environment.
