Netafim Opens $20 Million Plant in Hermosillo, Creating 200 Jobs

Hermosillo, Mexico – A new Netafim Mexico manufacturing plant has opened in Hermosillo, marking a significant $20 million investment and the creation of 200 formal jobs. Mayor Antonio Astiazarán Gutiérrez highlighted the economic boost for the region during the inauguration ceremony.

The decision by Grupo Orbia and Netafim to expand their Latin American operations in Hermosillo was celebrated by local officials. Astiazarán emphasized that the investment not only strengthens the local economy but also opens new employment avenues for families in Sonora. He pointed to Hermosillo's recent ranking among Mexico's top three most competitive cities by the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO), attributing this success to the region's skilled workforce and strategic projects.

Netafim's precision irrigation technologies are particularly vital for Hermosillo, a city situated in a desert region where efficient water use is a constant challenge. "Hermosillo shares with other arid regions of the world, like Israel, the need to optimize water resource use," Astiazarán stated. "Having a leader in sustainable agricultural solutions is a great advantage for regional development."

The mayor also underscored the collaborative efforts between municipal, state, and federal governments in attracting investments that foster technological innovation, competitiveness, and responsible water management. These factors are deemed essential for Sonora's sustainable growth. He expressed confidence that the new plant, which begins with five production lines, will expand to a projected 20 lines, significantly increasing job creation.
