Netanyahu rejects Trump-led Gaza peace plan for Hamas disarmament and Israeli withdrawal

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has firmly rejected a Gaza peace plan spearheaded by U.S. President Donald Trump. The proposal, put forth by Trump's "peace committee," outlined a roadmap for Hamas disarmament in exchange for Israeli troop withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.

During a cabinet meeting on December 9, Netanyahu declared, "Israel does not accept this 15-point document." He emphasized that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) would not proceed with any withdrawal until Hamas was fully disarmed, specifying that this applied to all weapons, not just heavy armaments. Netanyahu also reiterated his opposition to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

The Trump administration's peace committee had previously indicated that it expected Israel to completely withdraw from Gaza after Hamas's disarmament, a process expected to begin a week prior. Trump had announced a breakthrough in the plan to end the war, which began last year with an agreement and a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

According to the rejected roadmap, Israel and Hamas were to cease hostilities. Following an Israeli withdrawal, a Palestinian interim government, supported by international stabilization forces, would assume administrative and security control. While the plan suggested that weapons returned by Hamas under international supervision would remain under Palestinian control, Israel insisted on the complete removal of weapons from Palestinian territory. Hamas, in turn, has demanded Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and the establishment of a Palestinian state as conditions for returning heavy weaponry.
