Netflix has unveiled the first look at 'Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story,' the latest addition to Ryan Murphy's true-crime anthology series. The initial promotional materials set a dark, gothic tone, featuring late 19th-century costumes and dimly lit interiors that create an oppressive and claustrophobic atmosphere, hallmarks of Murphy's previous productions.

The imagery includes scenes of a woman holding a wine glass with a cold gaze, a man standing by carved coffins, and a woman dressed for travel, hinting at secrets within a house. These visuals are complemented by heavy fabrics and warm, limited light sources, reinforcing the period setting and mood.

However, the official poster dramatically shifts the tone. It features a woman from behind, raising an axe in a violent act, a direct nod to the notorious 1892 case of Lizzie Borden. Borden was tried and acquitted for the brutal axe murders of her father and stepmother. Another released frame shows the protagonist with blood on her face and neck, conveying the immediate aftermath of violence and promising a dramatic narrative.
