Netflix to make documentary series revealing an unknown side of Matthew Perry

Netflix is preparing a three-part documentary series that promises to show Matthew Perry as the people closest to him knew him: generous, funny, vulnerable and intensely charismatic.

I wanted to describe what it was like to love Matthew with all the complexities of his life and to show him as a whole person, not just as Chandler or someone who struggled with addiction.

“The One About Matthew Perry” will follow the actor’s rise to worldwide fame through his role as Chandler Bing in “Friends,” while also addressing the difficult periods of his private life and his long struggle with addiction. The premiere is scheduled for Oct. 27, three years after his death.

Family members and longtime friends will tell Perry’s story away from the cameras. The series will also explore the problems he faced over the years and his efforts to build a life beyond the fame and image of a television star. It is presented as an unvarnished account of his life, and of the openness that became an important part of his legacy.

Viewers will hear stories from Perry’s younger sister, Mia Perry Bouik, and his closest childhood friends. The documentary will also show previously unreleased photographs and recordings from the family archive.
