Netflix to premiere series based on Raphael's life

Netflix is set to release "Aquel," a television series chronicling the life of iconic Spanish artist Raphael, on October 9. The platform confirmed the premiere date in a statement on Thursday.

The series, structured into eight episodes, promises to cover Raphael's journey from his modest origins in post-war Spain to his conquest of major international stages. "This 'biopic' not only tells my story, but also reflects a shared history: more than six decades of career marked by unforgettable, yet profoundly significant moments," the artist stated in remarks provided by Netflix.

Javier Morgade has been cast to portray the young Raphael, while Carlos Santos will embody the singer during his more mature stages. The ensemble cast also features Francesco Carril, Natalia Varela, Pepa Aniorte, and Manolo Caro.

With a career spanning multiple decades and continents, the series will explore settings from Madrid to Las Vegas, Moscow, Paris, and Acapulco. "Aquel" is a production by Dlo Producciones in association with Caracol Televisión. Raphael, a three-time Grammy nominee, was named Person of the Year 2025 by the Latin Recording Academy and is an adopted son of numerous countries and cities, including Mexico, Chile, New York, and Los Angeles. His most famous songs include the title track "Yo soy aquel," "Cuando tú no estás," and "Qué sabe nadie."
